Sydney Baroque Ballet is a welcoming place for all who want to explore the wonderful world of baroque dance. Its main goal is to give musicians (and all those who desire to learn!) easy access to elementary training in baroque dance to improve understanding of baroque dance music. We also love to perform in costume (handmade by some of our dancers!).
Who can learn baroque dance?
While Sydney Baroque Ballet does focus on musician education, all are very welcome to come and experience the joy of dancing a style nearing extinction.
What is Baroque Ballet?
Baroque Ballet, or Baroque dance, covers a period from 1650-1750 in Europe. Most of the sources we will cover are from the French court and theatre. The style tends to be a gentler and more subtle version of modern day classical ballet. Legs have lower lifts, the body less contortions and it focuses on control and grace.
Sydney Baroque Ballet acknowledges the Wangal people who are the traditional custodians of the land on which we dance. We pay respect to Elders past, present, and emerging.
